About

Hi! I'm jesirose, a 21 year old programmer - crafter - gamer. If you enjoy reading my blog, please leave a comment!

I had some trouble with this, and this is how I solved it! In Firefox the image button had a white background, and no matter how I set the size it was still the wrong dimensions. This worked.

transparentpixel.gif is just a 1px transparent image.

Office Painting!

March 17th, 2008

We painted the office this weekend! It was a lot of fun! We used painters tape and a dropcloth, but somehow paint got everywhere :) No biggie, we’re going to replace the carpet and baseboards with wood or laminate wood eventually, so I can live with some blue spots on the carpet. It’s already crap anyway :)

It’s hard to get a good shot that shows the color, but it’s called Dreaming Blue. It’s a nice bright light blue. I was a bit worried when we did the primer cause the primer was really dark, and then when we put the paint on it looked baby blue, but after it dried it was PERFECT. It is the exact color I wanted.

New Workstation!

March 2nd, 2008

My new computer came yesterday! It’s a HP Workstation with 2GB ram, 160GB HD, and Intel Core 2 Duo processor. So I spent a few hours yesterday getting it up to date with updates, and then installing software. Yay!

So today I have to actually do some work. I have a massive headache, and the first thing I have to do is pick out a sound for a website from a list of alarms, sirens, beeps and rings. Yay. Right.

The rats have been named

What Up to Plano!

February 15th, 2008

As much as I hate living in Texas sometimes I do love Plano, it’s a great town. On pysch’s season finale they mentioned us as the last town a mummy was at before it walked out of the next museum. Go Plano! :)

New Ratties!

February 15th, 2008

I’m a sucker for the cuties.

New Rat 1: Cinnamon Bareback
New Rat Washing New Rat New Rat New Rat

New Rat 2: Agouti Hooded (Click to see the larger pics, her colors are really pretty up close. She’s not technically a hooded due to the waves in her stripe, but close enough for me :) lol)
New Rat New Rat New Rat New Rat

And to be fair, Sophie, Blue Hooded (same as new rat 2, her stripe isn’t perfect):
Sophie Sophie Sophie
And Katie, Blue Hooded
Katie Katie
The flash makes it hard to tell, L2R is New rat 2, Katie, New Rat 1
Katie and the two new rats
I haven’t come up with names for them yet. Colin suggested Coco for the Agouti one, but I’m not sure about that :) I was looking through a list of paired names and found Coco and Chanel.

Any suggestions? I was thinking they need more pet-names instead of people-names like Katie and Sophie. I suck at names. I named my cat Bear. :)

Awesome new Magellan

February 1st, 2008

So, I had to go out to a client site Wednesday and it was approx 100 miles away. I did not realize that at the time I agreed to go, but oh well. Now, I have absolutely no sense of direction. If I make a wrong turn, by the time I get back to the intersection I turned at, I have no idea which way I was coming originally. I can hardly remember if when I’m going south I need to turn right or left to go west. Anytime I have to go somewhere new, I get lost. It’s inevitable. I even get lost going places I HAVE been. I still have to ask Colin how to get to the airport everytime we go. I may be great at some things, but travel is not one of them.

I got lost 3 times going to this client’s house and back, and spent over 1 hour driving on wrong roads. Now, it doesn’t help that Google Maps and Mapquest both provided maps which ended up 30 miles away from the real destination. However, once I was leaving that was just me being lost. When I got home, I scared Colin into buying me a GPS, after two years of me asking for one.

It has voice control, bluetooth for my phone, and most importantly, very nice maps. The maps show the street names, “POI”s (restaurants, banks, etc) and it even estimates how long it will take you to get to the next turn. It chimes when you need to turn, and tells you beforehand. It has a 3-d style map.

I love it. I love my husband. All is right with the world now.

Ick.

I love onions, but now everything in my fridge tastes like onion. Specifically, my 20 or so bottles of water all now taste like onion. :(

New Rat Cage #2

January 6th, 2008

So, a few months after building the rat cage, we have learned several things:

  1. Melamine is not really that waterproof. Warped near the water bottle and their “favorite spots”.
  2. Soft wood as a door frame was a really bad idea.
  3. The large bottom door made it too easy for Sophie to run out, and it was hard for the pet sitter to feed them.
  4. If I put the food on the top shelf, they just pushed the bowl and everything to the bottom, making a huge mess.

IMG_1858While at Petsmart, I saw this ferret cage, called the “Fiesty Ferret Home”. It’s slightly taller than our cage, and not as wide, but deeper. All in all, it looked really nice, and I figured it would be cheaper in the end to buy this one than to try to repair the cage to my satisfaction. I was worried the 7/8″ bars were too far apart, but Sophie helped me test a piece of it and she could not get her head through it!

Colin and I put it together in about 30-45 minutes. The directions sucked, and two parts were bent a bit, but Colin prevailed! I love the size of this cage, none of the store-bought rat cages are near this size. The locks on the doors are great, and I also like the ridges on the levels, so the girls can’t push their igloos all the way to the bottom anymore. IMG_1870

The removable bedding tray is awesome. I think this is one of my favorite parts of this cage. It is so easy to change and add bedding, you don’t have to take the whole cage off like with my first cage, you don’t have to worry about them getting out the large door while you change it like the second, and it’s much cleaner. This is going to make it a breeze the next time the petsitter comes.

IMG_1862 There is even a neat sliding door on the top, which means to refill the food bowl, all you have to do is slide it open and reach in, and the girls cannot climb out of it. Again, great for if we need someone to petsit. All of these things that are easier mean I can actually ask a neighbor to do it instead of hiring someone, because they won’t even have to touch the rats in order to take care of them. (I wish I could find someone who wanted to play with them, but I haven’t yet)

Another Puzzle!

January 5th, 2008

Whales Puzzle I did another one of my new puzzles, this time a 300 pc one. It took me a lot longer, BUT, I did the whole thing without ever looking at the picture! I’m very proud of myself :)
